South Africa progressed to the second round of the TotalEnergies Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Morocco 2022 qualifiers after thrashing Mozambique 6-0 in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Banyana Banyana joined the next stage alongside Botswana, Guinea-Bissau, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tunisia, Senegal and Gabon after their respective first round triumphs.
Banyana continued where they left off in a 7-0 first leg win in Maputo, with strikes from Bambanani Mbane and Sibulele Holweni plus a brace each from Linda Motlhalo and Hildah Magaia ensuring a big win at Orlando Stadium.
With the result, South Africa advanced in style on 13-0 aggregate win and will take on either Algeria or Sudan in the second round.
Ethiopia 2-0 Uganda
In Bahir Dar, Ethiopia crashed out of the qualifiers after a 2-1 penalty shootout loss to Uganda despite a 2-0 victory at the Bahir Dar International Stadium.
The Ugandans travelled to Ethiopia, with a 2-0 first leg advantage but first half goals from Senaf Wakuma and Loza Abera helped the hosts forced the match into penalties after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.
With a triumph from the spot, the Crested Cranes are through to the second round and will battle Kenya for a ticket in February next year.
Zambia 3-2 Malawi
At Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia edged their COSAFA rivals Malawi to a spot in the second round of the qualifiers after a 3-2 win.
After a 1-1 first leg draw in Lilongwe Rachael Kundananji’s brace and Lushomo Mweemba’s strike helped the Copper Queens subdue the Malawians despite Asimenye Simwaka and Wezzie Mvula’s efforts.
A 4-3 aggregate triumph means Zambia will feature in the second round and will take on COSAFA foes Namibia, who eliminated Tanzania 5-3 on aggregate.
Eswatini 0-3 Zimbabwe
In Manzini, Zimbabwe secured a 3-0 second leg win over Eswatini courtesy of strikes from Marjory Nyaumwe, Maudy Mafuruse and Shyline Dambamuromo.
With a 3-1 first leg win in Harare, the Mighty Warriors confirmed their place in the second round with a 6-1 aggregate victory and will meet regional rivals Botswana in the second round for a ticket to Morocco 2022.
Burundi 1-0 Eritrea
After a 5-0 first leg win, Bukuru Joelle’s first half strike was all the Swallows of Burundi required to complete a double over Eritrea at the Stare Urukundo in Ngozi on Tuesday.
With a 6-0 aggregate win, Burundi are through to the second round and will square up against Djibouti, who won on walkover after Rwanda’s withdrawal.
Gabon 1-0 Congo
Flora Bouyi’s second half strike gave Gabon a 1-0 win over Congo in Libreville to progress to the next stage on away goal after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.
The progression means the Panthers will battle fellow west Africans side Togo, who also won a walkover Sao Tome and PrÃncipe, in the next stage.
Botswana 2-0 Angola
Botswana guaranteed their qualification to the second round thanks to Mokgabo Thanda and Thuto Ramafifi’s first half efforts in a 2-0 victory over Angola at the Francistown Stadium.
The Zebras earlier earned a huge 5-1 away win in Luanda before making the second leg a formality and set up a second round date with Zimbabwe.
Senegal 6-0 Liberia
A hat trick from Nguenar Ndiaye, Maty Diop’s brace and Ndeye Diakhate’s strike powered Senegal past Liberia 6-0 at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies on Tuesday.
With a 2-1 first leg win, the Senegalese progressed on 8-1 aggregate and will take on Mali, who dumped out Guinea, in the next stage.
Tunisia 1-0 Egypt
Meriem Houij’s late strike proved the difference as Tunisia cruise to the next round, beating north African rivals Egypt 1-0 at home and 7-2 on aggregate as well.
With the Tunisians’ win, they will in the second round face Equatorial Guinea who won on walkover DR Congo, having failed to appear for the first leg.
Mauritania 0-1 Guinea Bissau
In Nouakchott, Guinea-Bissau claimed a 1-0 away win over Mauritania to book their place in the second round on a 2-0 aggregate triumph.
Having advanced, the Guineans will confront west African rivals Burkina Faso, who edged Benin on 5-2 aggregate in the second round of the qualifiers. Source: CAFONLINE
